We need to realize that Buddhism began as a response to the injustice of the cast system in Hinduism and as a monastic movement. This is true of many spiritual paths and communities. Christianity has a lot of roots in monastic life. The Hours, organizing the day around the story of Jesus life, death and all is one example.
Now, it is interesting to see how these spiritual practices are carried out in daily life by lay folks. This panel touches on a lot of this.
I came from a prison Sangha this morning.Men, Dhamma brothers struggling and working on their spiritual life, trying to sit in meditation daily in the cell-community-security enviroment is rough. But they manage to do it, at least a few. But how about you? I know for me my secular or everyday life does not look like a monastic picture, but often in sitting quiet one feels that monastic sense.
Just some random thoughts, check the article out...thanks ko shin
